This is a glimpse into the work of José Julio Rodríguez, who was born on December 20 of 1912 in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. He studied in the Fine Arts Academy located in Queretaro. Since 1931 he dedicated his life to wood engraving (xylography). In 1936 he arrived to Mexico City, where he befriended the also known engraver, Francisco Díaz de León. Short after he entered the Book Art School, where he received metal engraving lessons from the Teacher Koloman Sokol. His first individual exposition was in 1940. In 1944 he went back to San Miguel de Allende to organize the teaching tactics in the Fine Arts Academy. A year later, he founded the Guanajuato’s Plastic Arts Academy.
In 1947 he imparted the wood engraving lessons and drawing in the Book Art School.
