Gemelos cósmicos

Dir. Elena Catalán

Gemelos cósmicos, is an animation short film in which main characters are inspired by sculptures by the artist Jorge Marín. It is a multidisciplinary project that brings together music, and historic and epic tales through digital tools. The siblings Hun and Vucub Hunahpú shake the world by playing ball. Annoyed, the lords of the underworld challenge them to play in their ball court, under the earth, where they murder them. The siblings’ remains make the earth blossom and give place to the pregnancy of a maiden and so, the cosmic twins Hunahpú and Ixbalanqué are born. The cosmic twins carry in their blood their ancestors’ spirits, and return to the underworld to defeat the lords of death.

Curious fact:

Las Alas de México (The Wings of Mexico)

In 2010 Las Alas de México was installed on the Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City as part of the monumental exhibition Alas de la Ciudad. The works had an immediate impact on the public who had direct exposure to Jorge Marín's sculptures. The massive acceptance by the public led the exhibition to be extended to other latitudes such as the United States, where the Mexican community visited the works with a sense of belonging. This gave rise to the idea of creating the Jorge Marín Foundation, which since then has added a series of workshops and talks aimed at vulnerable communities and people, to promote among them an approach to Mexico's cultural and artistic heritage. Its aim is to use art as a tool for social change among people.
