Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Guanajuato
XIV. Songs of love and death
Dir. Roberto Beltrán Zavala
Under the direction of Roberto Beltrán, the OSUG will premiere one of the works from the most popular soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich. As a renegade, he wrote the best music he could write as a sign of protest. "Sinfonia no. 14, Op. 13" is composed by 11 poems related to death, it's not a coincidence that the first two poems are from Federico García Lorca. Shostakovich composed this melody for a soprano, a bass, a chord orchestra, percussions and celesta. The texts are borrowed from the works of Guillaume Apollinaire, Wilhelm Küchelbecker and Rainer Maria Rilke.
With more than 30 programs presented every year, the OSUG is one of the resident orchestras from this festival.
