Circo Nacional de Cuba - Dúo América
Unicyclist Duo America
Dir. Reymis Caridad Cardona
Circo Nacional de Cuba is the owner of a large tradition that took the circus arts to the most hidden corners of the island. Circuba is a show that makes us recall our childhood with beauty and colors of amazing acts that mix Russian gymnastic techniques, classic ballet and music-dancing skills. This time, we will be able to see it along with Dúo America, a duo of agile unicyclists that will cross alleys at the same time they juggle and perform hula hop.

Curious fact:
History of Cuban Circus
It was not until 1800 that an abandoned place in La Habana previously known as Plaza Marte, "un tinglado de lona y maderas", was taken by Catalan entrepreneur Eustaquio de la Puente and used it for what he later called the Cuban Circus.
In places like this, Spanish artists and newbies from the island offered a variety of shows. These representations are previous to all of those big shows in theatres with famous artists that were so acclaimed and lasted until 1960.
The father of Cuban theater, Don Francisco Covarrubias was formed in similar places and in 1847, when the Circo Villanueva made its last bow, he recited: “Es mi destino patente que un circo fuera mi oriente y otro circo sea mi ocaso. Culminar la aventura que elevó la carpa a gran escenario requiere sobre todo pasión, que se hereda, transmite, contagia”. By the end of the 19th century, Covarrubias acted for the Circo París.
In February 1962, the Revolutionary Government gave to Consolidado de Centros y Atracciones Turísticas a blue big top with four masts, a train with 34 pieces: kitchen, rooms, offices, luxury restaurants, electric plant, 2 water pipes, bathroom and a kid circle for the artists' children.
